Train

"Your essence is something that troubles Me." said a strange man on a train. "You seem to be in-between two places at once, your body is not centered in this reality, you're not completely here or there. I wondered what I should say. I had nothing. This strange person told me with dry ease that I am essentially not whole, or at least that is what I gathered.

I felt translucent.

He hummed a tune for a few moments.
"hummm huummm humm hummm."
He hummed at me as if it were directed at me, with force.

CD warnings

In the past few months, I've noticed something on the CD's that I've bought recently; a warning from the FBI. I first noticed it on the new P J Harvey album Uh Huh Her, and then on the new Cure disc. I think I am bothered by it due to the big department of justice seal, not that I have a beef with the FBI or anything, but why put it on a CD? Yes, we know copying is bad and all, but is there really a need to mess up the design of CD packaging with warning labels? I still hate the fact that Parental Advisory stickers are now printed directly on the cover art of CD's.

The new Hives disc goes one step further, the "no copy" label is still on the back cover art, but in addition to that, a big warning label on the CD it's self. I think the issue I have with all this is that it's ugly; all these warning labels are ugly. It's like having a cigarette warning on a CD, "This CD is bad for your health."

a letter

A letter from Lockheed Aircraft Corporation to George A. Scheuer dated december 17, 1948.

Mr. George A. Scheuer
Tribune
South Bend, Indiana

Dear George:

When you flew in the Lockheed jet trainer last summer you became one of the first civilians ever to ride in a jet propelled airplane, anywhere.

While your flight may not stand as a landmark in aviation, you may want to keep the enclosed plaque as a personal memento of the occasion and a reminder that you were one of the world's first jet passengers.

It was a pleasure to have you join the Air Force and Lockheed for this demonstration program and we hope to see you often in the future.

With best regards,

John Guenther

The tempo of doom

The tempo of doom, otherwise known as my car, decided to have some suspension issues last week, leaving me without a car for a few days. This sucked for many reasons; one being that a friend told me of a house being remodeled and a bunch of cool interesting wood was out for the taking. By the time I got there, the garbage men had taken it all away. Bad timing on my part I guess.

The reason I need cool interesting wood? For the sculptures I make, I need to have at least five more for a show I'm involved with in October. Not that I need to make five, I have a few hiding someplace that will be in the show but I really want to work on something new. I'm sure I have some wood I can use, but it all looks the same and I need things to move to a different level, or something.
