music and television

Last Thursday I was watching a bit of chic-a-vision, you know the television equivalent of a chic flick. Anyway, I was watching Men in Trees, a somewhat interesting and comical show, when I noticed the music in the background, it seemed familiar and I realized it was a song by Eleni Mandell, "American Boy" from the album Afternoon. So afterwards I did a little digging into the other music featured in the show and was a bit surprised to find so many Indie musicians listed in all the episodes, I guess this makes cense, indie music is much cheaper that big label stuff. I guess the main point of this would be that I am glad Miss Mandell got some exposure on a large scale, she just released a new album "Miracle of Five" on zedtone the same week the show aired, though I thought they should have used Make-out King from said album but exposure is exposure.

Hey, I'm writing again!

After years of being a Gapers Block groupie (I always preferred "friend of the block") I am finally writing for them in the new section Drive-Thru. Drive-Thru is all about Chicago's food scene, something I happen to know a bit about due to my day gig as a distribution coordinator for Sugar and Spice. I'm going to be reporting on a wide variety of things, from the business side of things to reports from the coffee scene. Do come by and check it out.

Let's just hope they keep me around for awhile so I can get back into the swing of writing.

project 52

For the past month or so I haven't been posting much of anything in blog form or on flickr, not that I haven't been working on stuff, I have, honest. I've started working on a painting project tentatively called "52" a painting a week. The idea is to get into the groove of making stuff and to work out some ideas in a timely manner.

The main problem that I'm having would be the damn cold weather, it can be hard to use spray paint in weather that makes your paint come out of the can chunky. So to deal with this, I have prepped canvases for warm days, cut the stencils and such, so not many of the paintings are quite "finished" but I have been working on them. I think for the next few weeks or months, I will be working on some other paintings, watercolor and such, just to keep things going and have something to post. The idea is to post something every Monday, so keep a look out.
