egypt

egypt, originally uploaded by boxspring.

I made this a few years ago, I used an old lantern slide, transferred it to video, rephotographed it to slide film and then projected it onto wood to make the final image. The final diptych measures 32 by 20.

One liner

I was at the gapers block get together last night and apparently during the course of conversation I had a great one liner. I can not for the life of me remember what it was, or even the topic of conversation. I hate that. I've spent most of the morning trying to remember and I can't. Oh well. I guess I should mic myself and record everything whenever I go out, maybe I can get a deal on equipment from government surveillance surplus.

As you may have noticed, I tend to work in a variety of different mediums, and when it comes to photography, I tend to work in different styles as well. From straight b/w to experimental color projection, alternative processes to digital, I tend to do everything.
I'm going to be uploading some of the digital stuff I did in college soon, so you can see all the styles that I've worked in for the past few years, I will also start to post the new photo work sometime soon.

The Coctails reunion show.

On Saturday night I saw the Coctails reunion show at the Abbey pub with Andrew and Brandon. I forgot how cool the Coctails were live. I think the last and only time I saw them was lollapalooza many years ago, the only time because I never could get out of work to get to a show. I may have bumped into members of the band here and there, but that doesn't count. This show was to celebrate the release of their new box set called "Popcorn Box" a set of rarities and unreleased music, mostly instrumental. I'm a fan of both the early and late periods of the Coctails; this has a little bit of both, but is really jazzy.

The Coctails are one of those bands that I have a great deal of respect for, not only for their musical talent, but their artistic merit and showmanship. At the show, they passed screen printed popcorn bags with band member clown likenesses on them, I got Archer, and I forget who Andrew got. What other band could that? What band could make cloth dolls of them selves and sell them at shows? You don't see Trent Reznor with a cloth doll, even though that might be dammed funny.

I never got the chance to get many of the Coctails products, seeing as though I never really was able to get to any shows, but the idea of that type of thing was just so cool, it reminds me of the craft movement that is going on today, with the DIY Trunk Show, department, and Art vs. Craft shows.

Since I was there, I got the "Popcorn Box." I considered it a birthday present to myself, as well as the show.

Ground

I'm still testing the waters in regards to posting photos on this site. I have been working with a bunch of old photos, mostly from college I think, that illustrate my fascination with decay. Maybe not a fascination, more of an interest in turning something discarded into something precious.
