The Booth

The Booth, originally uploaded by boxspring.

I took this shot at the DIY Trunk Show, tons of stuff.

I’m in the process of setting up an Etsy shop so that I can make it a bit easier to sell stuff throughout the year. I tend to only sell stuff at the few shows I do during the year, and I’m not really in any stores at the moment, so Etsy it is. Stay tuned for more info and the URL.

DIY Trunk Show 2009: The Seven Year Stitch

The DIY Trunk Show is just days away and I know you are in dire need of greeting cards and small art pieces for your holiday gift giving, so why not visit me at the Pulaski Park Auditorium on November 21st. I will have all my classic cards, as well as a few newish cards and tons of small prints of the digital paintings that people seem to like as well as a few large paintings. So stop by and say hello.

A neat bike pump.

I am intrigued by this bike light/pump prototype I saw on gizmag, it is such an obvious idea I wonder why I’ve never seen something like this before. It gave me an idea the I may work on this summer, a set of LED lights for a bike using off the shelf flash lights and some wood. Though it wouldn’t be as cool as the pump powered light, it would be something interesting to try.

What's in a name.

Guy in Norway changed his name too:

Julius Andreas Gimli Arn MacGyver Chewbacka Highlander Elessar-Jankov!

If I were to do the same thing I think it would be:

Dr. Major Bruce "Scuba-Diving Water Buffalo" Rivers-Flammond Spengler 3.14159 ゴジラ(Gojira) Abin Sur Wilhelm Gustav Lincoln Ackbar Minor von Maytag Jones Sky-wal-kerrrrr Scheuer. Attorney at Law!

Though I am not a doctor, attorney or giant fire breathing lizard, one day I hope to be at least one.

Upcoming Shows in November

Just an advanced warning regarding some upcoming crafty type shows I will be attending. First off the DIY Trunk Show on Saturday, November 21st at the Pulaski Park Auditorium in Chicago. I should have lots of new stuff, I'm making some of my new articulated bus toys just for this show, I haven't decided on how many, I don't want to bring too many or too few. I'm running out of space. I will have some of the new cards I've been working on as well as some other stuff I've been messing with over the past few months, the lamps should be done by then. Eighty vendors from the Midwest will be in attendance, so do some local shopping for the holidays.

The second show is Art Vs. Craft Round 9 on Saturday, November 28th in beautiful downtown Milwaukee. This show has artists and crafters from all around the country, so it is well worth the trip. I think this is the second year Art Vs. Craft has been held on Thanksgiving weekend, last year it was incredibly packed and everyone was pleased. The show takes place at the Humphrey Scottish Rites Masonic Center, a wonderful place to hold an alternative craft show. I will have lots of the digital painting prints that everyone seemed to like so much, as well as some new one off stencil paintings, and maybe a bus or two.

If you are looking for something particular from me, a painting or print, a lot of a card you have fancied in the past, send me an e-mail and I will try to have stuff for you at either of these shows.

Due to the constant prodding of my so called friends, I have succumbed and created a twitter account. Don't expect much.

wooden toy cars

cars, originally uploaded by boxspring.

I wrote a small feature on wooden toy cars for Gapers Block, the second in a series of how to articles I’m planning to write. These cars are a few things I wanted to make for some time, especially the jeep.

I did my basic hand cut stencil on wood for the jeep and painted it with flat black spray paint, then cut to shape. The look of the jeep was to be the look of the real jeep, the one in a coma in the garage that will more than likely never run again. I just wanted something that I could look at.

The other cars I made are a sports car a sedan and a cta articulated bus. I think I will have some busses at the next DIY Trunk Show, so keep an eye out for that.

slatted

slated, originally uploaded by boxspring.

This week in the Gapers Block A/C section, you can learn how to make my Slatted End-Grain Side Table. This is the first in what I hope to be a series of how to feature articles for A/C, stuff people can build or make at home that's a bit different. Not everything will be furniture, some of the projects will revolve around home decor, entertainment ideas, backyard parties and the like.

In doing this, I hope to generate some ideas for my own furniture and decor that I will more than likely sell at some shows down the line. I have a few more ideas for the Slatted line, credenza, wall mounted coat rack, a desk, room divider and the like, so keep an eye out for future posts regarding those here and other stuff on GB.
